# Postgres

> Connect to a PostgreSQL database.

## Setup

Provide the host, port, database, and TLS mode, then the username and password of a read-only role. Create a dedicated role granted only the schemas Marina should read.

Add the connection under **Settings -> Connections**. Saving verifies it with a read-only test call.

## Operations

All operations are read-only. Apps declare the ones they use per connection; see [Using connections in apps](/connections/overview).

| `schema.search` | Search tables and columns by name. |
| `schema.describe` | Describe one table's columns and types. |
| `query.read` | Run a read-only SQL query. |
